Birds are singing more each day as Spring arrives. The volume, variety and diversity of songs will peak in mid-May to early June, and will taper off through the mid summer. The best way to learn them is with a little guidance and then lots of enjoyable personal experience outside annually at this time of year.

This is a course for beginners that will focus on the most beautiful and more easily learned songs of the commonly seen and heard birds. Once you have learned these, it will be easier for you to distinguish new songs that you encounter.

The course will consist of 3 parts: one evening class session and two field trips, on the following dates:

1. A single class session on Wednesday April 2, 7-9 pm at the Land Trust

2. Early Spring Field trip on Saturday April 5, 8-10AM (island location) for early Spring birds, mostly residents

3. Late Spring Field trip on Saturday June 7, 8-10AM (island location), for both resident birds and newly arrived migrants

As learning bird song requires more personal attention and guidance, I'm afraid I have to limit this class to 20 participants, with registrations accepted on a first-come, first-in basis. We will divide into smaller groups of 7 or less on the field trips.

The cost is $25, payable to Vashon Audubon, as all proceeds will be for the benefit of our local Audubon chapter.
