Michael Elenko photo of Snow Geese in the Skagit Valley
Vashon Audubon is very pleased to offer two upcoming classes with Michael Elenko focused on bird photography!
Gear & Techniques for Getting the Shot
March 15, 7-9 PM @ The Land Trust Building
This class is a mixture of gear hands-on, technical discussion, and advice for obtaining sharp bird images using a digital camera. Discussed and shown will be equipment (cameras, lenses, mono/tripods) for effectively capturing photos of birds. Auto-focus types and camera settings will be explained. Ideal controls for shutter speed, aperture, and ISO will be recommended. The benefits and drawbacks to using different-sized camera formats will be analyzed. Best practices in the field, as recommended by the Audubon Society, will be reviewed. You should be able to appreciate the value of the photo gear you already own, as well as gain direction for future purchases that will help you get better pictures.
Making the Most of Your Image
March 22, 7-9 PM @ The Land Trust Building
This class will show you how to use popular post-processing software to bring out the best of your bird photographs whether you are posting these online or making a print. Live demonstrations of basic and advanced techniques will highlight simple before-and-after improvements. Methods for ensuring accurate color and sharp feather detail will be taught. It’s common in bird photography to take too many images, so we will review best practices for organizing them for fast access.
